Climate Crisis, Climate Action

Climate Network Lanark (CNL) is actively recruiting to fill two positions on our Board of Directors.

Needed: Board Members
Type: board of directors positions / unpaid
Organization: Climate Network Lanark (CNL)
Location: Board members work from home. Most but not all of our meetings are virtual. Ideally, candidates would live in Lanark County / Perth or Smiths Falls, or nearby

We are busier than ever uniting residents and businesses across Lanark County and Smiths Falls to act on the climate crisis. We focus on practical strategies like promoting the use of renewable energy, using natural systems to absorb carbon emissions, improving energy efficiency, and expanding organic waste composting. We also help the local community prepare for the impacts of climate change by advocating for measures to mitigate the social, psychological, and economic risks of extreme weather and the loss of nature. As interest in our projects grows, we need volunteer leaders on our Board who can help scale our projects and expand our funding relationships.

Board Member – Secretary. This role supports continuity in the Board’s decision making and ensures that our General Manager receives clear direction. Responsibilities include agenda development and distribution, meeting management, and minute taking for our Board meetings. The Secretary also works closely with our General Manager to ensure key documents such as funding applications or project progress reports are filed on time.

Board Member – Fundraising. This role shapes and guides CNL’s fundraising strategy to ensure it aligns with our mission, vision and principles. It includes developing innovative approaches to secure funding from diverse channels, including institutional grants, community foundations, corporate partnerships, individual donors, and events. As a passionate advocate for our mission, this Board member builds and nurtures relationships with funders and identifies new revenue streams ensuring CNL capitalizes on its opportunities.

Commitment

CNL’s seminars and workshops are drawing hundreds of participants, eager to learn, collaborate – and yes, act – on practical strategies to reduce carbon emissions, conserve nature, and enhance community resilience against extreme weather. If you are committed to preserving our planet for future generations, reside in Lanark County or Smiths Falls and believe in the power of local action, and have legal, accounting, planning or community organizing experience, we want to hear from you. This is a working Board of Directors. A minimum of approximately five hours a month would be required for monthly Board meetings and sub-committee meetings. Candidates should have Web access and be comfortable attending virtual meetings. More information on CNL and our Board is available on our website at climatenetworklanark.ca
