Position: Airport Wildlife Management Officer
Employer: The Raptors
Location: Comox Valley (Lazo) / Courtenay BC

The Raptors is hiring for a Wildlife Management Officer based out of the Comox Valley, BC. This position would be based at the CFB Comox Airfield in the Comox Valley with initial training at our Visitor Centre in Duncan, BC. In this position, you would be utilizing modern wildlife management techniques to mitigate environmental and safety hazards on the airfield. An ideal candidate would have:

  • Canadian Citizenship and the ability to obtain DND Reliability Status (passing a rigorous background and criminal record check) (Required)
  • Class 5 Drivers License with a clean driving record (Required)
  • Valid Firearms Purchase and Acquisition License (Required)
  • Some post-secondary education in a related field (biology, ecology, zoology etc.)
  • Comfort working outdoors for long periods of time, in all weather conditions.
  • Adaptability to a variety of work and tasks
  • Willingness to travel for work at other airfields for significant periods of time (3-4/weeks at a time)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently for long periods of time
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Organizational skills
  • Passion for and experience with animals, especially birds
  • Passion for conservation and the environment

An exceptional candidate would also possess:

  • Experience working on an airfield
  • Radio operating experience and/or possession of a valid ROC-A License
  • Firearms experience
  • Reliability status with the DND
  • Experience trapping / banding birds
  • First aid skills
  • Raptor handling/animal training experience

This is a full-time permanent position, with wages of approximately $25+/hr (depending on experience). Applicants must be willing to relocate to the Comox Valley (Temporary housing available for initial relocation while permanent housing is acquired). Due to the location of the work, applicants must have access to a vehicle or other means of reliable transportation. Public transportation does not reliably service the majority of our worksites.
