3 Camp Counsellors (Seasonal Work Opportunity)

10-week contract position, 35 hours per week (June 16th to August 22nd, 2025)

Who we are: Ecosource is an innovative environmental organization that empowers the community to become more environmentally responsible through creative public education. The position: Ecosource is seeking 3 Camp Counsellors to co-facilitate our EcoStart Summer Camp program, leading children and youth aged 6 to 14 in positive experiential learning. The counsellors will work in close collaboration with members of the Ecosource team to engage campers in outdoor play and discovery, exploring and cooking with local food, and hands-on environmental education using JEDIS (justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and safety) principles. The main camp activities will take place at Ecosource’s Community Climate Hub in Mississauga, with occasional offsite field trips.

Responsibilities:

• Co-facilitate 7 weeks of Ecosource’s Kids for the Climate Day Camp for children and youth ages 6 to14.
• Work as part of a team to create safe and inclusive environments for children of all backgrounds and varying needs using an anti-racism and anti-oppression lens.
• Collaborate with team members on the development of creative environmental education programming, including age-appropriate environmental learning, harvesting/planting activities, cooking sessions, games, and crafts.
• Help with the planning and facilitation of a new pilot week program for youth campers, aged 11 to 14 years old.
• Plan and facilitate camp programming that will take place offsite including nature walks, activities at public parks, urban agriculture sites, and other excursions.
• Regularly monitor and enforce health, safety, and well-being guidelines for campers.
• Support relevant program communications including with campers’ parents and guardians, and community partners.
• Assist with the development and administration of evaluation tools for camper and parent/guardian feedback and provide recommendations for program modifications.
• Assist with organizational environmental education related events, workshops, and programming as required.

Qualifications:

• Energetic and creative person with an ability to connect with children through leading dynamic, inclusive, and engaging activities.
• Previous camp counsellor experience required.
• A passion for environmental and climate action education.
• Ability to collaborate and work as part of a team to achieve shared goals.
• Demonstrated understanding of childhood behaviours and committed approach to positive classroom management.
• Standard First Aid and CPR C Certificate an asset.
• Due to funding requirements, the successful candidate must be 15-30 years of age.

Application Information:

This is a10-week contract position paid at a rate of $26.00 per hour at 35 hours per week from June 16th to August 22nd. Access to personal days and 6% vacation pay are included in the position. Due to the nature of this role, this position will be fully in-person at Ecosource’s Community Climate Hub in Mississauga.

A Police Vulnerable Sector Check will be required upon hiring.
