“Our house is on fire. I am here to say, our house is on fire. ... I want you to act as you would in a crisis. I want you to act as if our house is on fire. Because it is.” — Greta Thunberg
What's the big deal?
We're using too much fossil fuels, putting too much carbon into the atmosphere. Climate change is causing extreme weather, droughts, fires, hurricanes, floods, famine. If we don't act, the climate crisis is quite possibly going to kill us. The more we fly and drive and buy stuff, the more we careen towards a dark future. Millions if not billions of lives are at stake, worse than either World War. But there is a better way!
So why isn't everybody running out to fight it?
Most people don't understand how urgent the situation is. Some feel powerless, that it's out of their control. Many passively assume that the government should fix it for us.
But — the future is not yet written. Do we give up? Turn to finger pointing, cynicism, denial? Or leap into action?
Let's make it a priority to do everything we can — in our own lives, workplaces and careers.
What can you do?
Personal, and political.
By personal, we mean rethinking your personal priorities to create a more people- and planet-friendly lifestyle. First, stop flying gratuitously, it's murderous. Even the Washington Post says so. Reduce your driving as much as possible. Either indiscriminate driving becomes a thing of the past ...or you will. Relocalize.
Your shopping and financial choices are also important. Do you buy factory farmed food any more than necessary? Do you work for a car or oil company — when if you really put your mind to it, you could break away and do something much better with your life?
By political, we mean anything from supporting environmental groups, to forming a local group, volunteering, and supporting positive, genuine political change.
Don't let it feel overwhelming — it's positive and life-affirming. Waking up isn't always easy... but it's better than staying in bed forever. Think about it. Redoing your bathroom isn't going to save your life or your children. But dedicating yourself to the fight against climate change... could do just that. You don't have to “do it all”. Nobody can. But if you care about your loved ones... it's time to act.
Take your pick — but get started now!

“Global warming, and its fix — decarbonization — touches almost every corner of what we do, and the risks to the economy are enormous, starting now. At stake are our profits, our businesses, our very quality of life.” — Heather Scoffield
“The question is not 'can you make a difference?' You already do make a difference. It's just a matter of what kind of difference you want to make, during your life on this planet.” — Julia Butterfly Hill
“What at first can feel like sacrifice... can end up being the best thing you've done with your life. What will you do with your life, at this crucial time in history?” — Wilfred Bricker
“The future will be what you contribute to and create.” — Greg
