Web Designer / Website Design

Position: Web Designer
Organization: Green Party of Ontario
Location: Remote Ontario (this is a remote position with some travel to Toronto)

  • Type: Contract, Full-time, $55,000-$60.000 commensurate with experience

There are a lot of opportunities out there, but not many of them involve directly working on making Ontario a better place.

The Green Party of Ontario (GPO) is currently hiring a Web Designer to support our website (gpo.ca). By joining our small, dynamic team you will be directly involved in planning, designing, and implementing our website through to the next general Provincial Election.

Duties & Responsibilities:

A Web Designer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing a fully functional website. Your duties include creating appealing website designs while following the GPO style guide, and customizing webpages based on specifications from stakeholders.

Major Tasks

Web Design

  • Design and implement visually appealing, user-friendly, and responsive web pages that align with the Green Party’s branding.
  • Create mock-ups and wireframes to guide layout and functionality, ensuring an optimized user experience.
  • Implement changes in WordPress, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and SEO best-practices are followed.
  • Regularly audit website content to ensure alignment with organizational goals and compliance with accessibility standards.
  • Propose solutions to improve user experience, accessibility, and website functionality.
  • Effectively communicate updates, timelines, and challenges to team members and stakeholders.

  • Ability to balance creativity with functionality to create user-centric designs that align with organizational goals.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in design software such as Photoshop, InDesign, or similar.
  • Experience with wireframing and prototyping tools like Balsamiq or Figma.
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and WordPress for implementing designs.
  • Familiarity with SEO, accessibility, and responsive design best practices.
  • Bonus: Experience with PHP, JavaScript, and version control systems like Git/GitHub.
