VOLUNTEER POSITION

Role: Political Advocacy Coordinator
Organization: Community Climate Council
Location: remote in Peel Region/GTA, Ontario

About The Community Climate Council (CCC)

We are a passionate and dedicated team of volunteers who are unable to sit idle as we live through the climate crisis and strive to catalyze climate action at the local level through climate literacy and political advocacy.

About this role

The Community Climate Council is seeking a Political Advocacy Coordinator to support the CCC in our climate change advocacy efforts. Working with the Team Lead, this position a pivotal role in shaping and executing our organization's strategic initiatives related to climate change and environmental sustainability. You will work closely with stakeholders, engage with policymakers, and coordinate advocacy campaigns to drive positive change in policy and public opinion. Time Commitment: 3-5 hours/week

Duties

  • Support the development and implementation of strategic advocacy plans to advance policies and initiatives that address climate change
  • Collaborate with internal teams to align advocacy efforts with organizational goals
  • Conduct thorough research and analysis of climate change policies, legislative proposals, and regulatory frameworks
  • Stay informed about the latest developments and emerging trends in climate change policy at local, regional, and national levels
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including policymakers, government agencies, NGOs, and other advocacy organizations
  • Represent the organization in meetings, public forums, and coalition-building activities
  • Track and analyze climate change-related legislation and regulations
  • Coordinate advocacy campaigns, including grassroots mobilization, digital activism, and public awareness initiatives
  • Collaborate with the communications team to develop compelling messaging and educational materials for campaign
  • Develop and deliver training programs to equip staff, volunteers, and supporters with the knowledge and skills needed for effective climate change advocacy
  • Conduct workshops, webinars, and presentations on advocacy strategies and best practices
  • Track and evaluate the progress and impact of advocacy initiatives
  • Prepare reports and presentations to communicate achievements, challenges, and opportunities to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Attend a weekly team meeting

Qualifications

  • Experience in political advocacy, particularly in the field of climate change and environmental sustainability. climate issues and climate action an asset
  • Understanding of climate change policy, legislative processes, and political dynamics at local, regional, and national levels
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to articulate complex policy issues and effectively engage with diverse stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and compelling messages
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, as well as independently with minimal supervision
  • Passion for climate change advocacy and commitment to environmental sustainability
  • Experience in project management, including planning, organizing, and prioritizing tasks
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with advocacy tools and software
