VOLUNTEER POSITION

Position: Project and Team Development Volunteer
Organization: Biosphere Eco-Cities Canada (BECC)
Location: remote, anywhere in Canada

Current need

Biosphere Eco-Cities Canada (BECC) is looking for a volunteer specialist in project and group development to support development of projects and teams in four cities.

Context

A Biosphere Eco-City (BEC) is an urban-centred region where people and organizations cooperate to achieve sustainability. BEC initiatives do this with projects for engagement. These currently take place in Ottawa, Toronto, Brampton, Edmonton, and Vancouver.

BECC is a national network that supports development of these and future BEC initiatives. It has an elected board and is a registered charity. For more information see BioEcoCity.org .

Six BEC projects are underway in the four newer cities (all but Ottawa) of the national network. Projects are progressing, but guidance from a specialist would help meet project goals quicker. Also, it is hoped that the projects will lead to more permanent structures (committees, councils, or boards) for BEC work in those cities. Advice on how to do this would be very useful. In addition, the teams would benefit from training on fundraising, networking and development of partnerships.

The BEC Development Volunteer would be a non-voting member of the BECC board. This person could later become a voting member if elected at an annual general meeting.

Roles of BEC Development Volunteer

  • Advise BEC teams on project development
  • Develop results-driven strategy for project success
  • Advise BEC teams on developing their organizations
  • Train BEC teams on fundraising, outreach and partnerships
  • Join the BECC Secretariat, which coordinates support for BEC development
  • Brief BECC board on BEC development and needs.

Experience and Commitment

  • motivated and collaborative individual, who can work with the different teams and initiatives to identify funding opportunities
  • significant experience leading project and group development.
  • experienced in fundraising through grants and sponsorship

It is expected that the candidate would be able to commit 4-5 hours per week for a year to this volunteer position. It is a remote work position.

Please send a resume or letter of interest to: masuma@BioEcoCity.org . Write the position name in the subject line. Please mention you saw this at GoodWork.ca.
