The London Environmental Network (LEN) connects local nonprofits and community groups working with an environmental focus. We work to build strong, resilient organizations to be more effective at creating positive environmental change over the long term.

At this time, we are recruiting additional members to serve as Directors on the LEN Board who are ready to help execute LEN’s vision in London Ontario.

Vision: London is known as one of the greenest and most resilient cities in Canada.

The LEN Board of Directors oversees the governance and strategic direction of the Network. They meet regularly to provide feedback and support in all areas of the Network including, but not limited to, governance, financial stability, strategic planning, fundraising,operations and ensuring human resource compliance.

Board of Directors’ Purpose:

  • Set strategic framework for LEN so that staff and Network Members can develop specific operational goals and tactics
  • Monitor (with input from staff and network members) strategic goals and benchmarks; approve annual goals in subsequent years.
  • Ensure that the LENis accountable to funding sources in terms of deliverables and reporting.
  • Drive resources (funding, people, opportunities) toward LEN whenever possible (ie. recruiting volunteers, assisting with funding development, etc.)
  • Create ad hoc and sub-committees to address specific or ongoing LEN issues.
  • Ensure financial, and human resource compliance.
  • Engage in succession planning for LEN Leadership, including the Board members and the Executive Director.

Experience and Skills

LEN is seeking action-oriented Board members with a variety of experience and backgrounds. Currently, we are seeking the following skill sets in particular:

  • Knowledge of the government, education or energy sector
  • Post-secondary students
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations
  • Governance
  • Sponsorship and Fund Management
  • Francophone

Board of Directors Membership:

The Board of Directors will be made up of a minimum of 5 individuals to a maximum of 15 individuals, including:

  • Representatives from LEN Members, excluding the Executive Director(s) of LEN member organizations;
  • Employees of Green Economy London Members, excluding owners/co-owners, Chief Financial Officers, Chief Executive Officers and/or majority shareholders;
  • Environmentally conscious representatives from the general public; and/or
  • Board Directors with experience and/or training in governance, non-profit management, fundraising, finance, marketing and volunteer management.

Newly elected directors shall be elected for a three-year (3) term with no more than 2 consecutive terms totalling six (6) years.

Time Commitments:

Directors will meet monthly for regularly scheduled meetings (usually 10 a year), which are typically 2-3 hours in length. Each board member is also required to sit on one other committee to the Board (A list of current active committees can be found on our website).

In addition to our scheduled meetings, we ask Board members to commit to 1-3 hours a month of independent work outside of regularly scheduled meetings.
