VOLUNTEER POSITION

Position: Secretariat Administrator Volunteer
Organization: Biosphere Eco-Cities Canada (BECC)
Location: remote, anywhere in Canada

Biosphere Eco-Cities Canada (BECC) is looking for a volunteer to administer the work of its secretariat, which coordinates support for development of Biosphere Eco-City (BEC) initiatives in various cities. The secretariat:

  • gathers information on the progress of those initiatives
  • provides a forum for discussions of ways to improve progress
  • provides outreach to non-BEC people and organizations
  • receives inquiries on the BEC program

A Biosphere Eco-City is an urban-centred region where people and organizations cooperate to achieve sustainability. BEC initiatives do this with projects for engagement. These currently take place in Ottawa, Toronto, Brampton, Edmonton, and Vancouver.

BECC is a national network that supports development of these and future BEC initiatives. It has an elected board and is a registered charity. For more information see BioEcoCity.org .

Members of the BECC Secretariat currently include leaders of six BEC projects, plus BECC’s Volunteer Coordinator, Communication Strategist, and Chair.

The Administrator of the Secretariat would cover the following tasks:

  • Organize Secretariat meetings and take minutes
  • Gather and compile information on BEC progress before meetings
  • Respond to external inquiries for information on the BEC program
  • Lead development of quarterly round tables for all BEC members

The candidate for this position should have the following skills and experience:

  • Ability to organize and communicate information
  • Ability to set up a meeting and take minutes
  • Ability to write clearly and simply
  • Experience with teamwork

It is expected that the candidate would be able to commit 4-5 hours per week for a year to this volunteer position. This is a remote work position.
