Founded in 1993, the JGIC is the Canadian chapter of a dynamic global network of Jane Goodall Institutes around the world.
Inspired by the vision of our founder Dr. Jane Goodall, our vision is a healthy planet where people make compassionate choices to live sustainably and in harmony with each other, the environment and other animals.
In Africa, we support community-led conservation projects to protect key habitats for chimpanzees and great apes, while working to improve the wellbeing of local communities living in the these ecologically fragile areas.
In Canada, the JGIC partners with Indigenous-led organizations to tackle environmental inequity, biodiversity loss, and climate change; and through its Roots & Shoots program, empowers young people to take action to protect our shared home. JaneGoodall.ca
Action is hope, unleashed. Every day, we come to work and think: how can we inspire people to act? And how can those people, in turn, act in a way that inspires others to do the same? Action isn’t possible for all of us, all the time. But if you have the energy to do some good today, and inspire some good in others, then join us. We have a lot of work to do.
It started with Jane. But the rest is up to us. At JGI Canada, every dollar truly counts. Gifts and donations are effectively and responsibly used to make a targeted impact, so you know your contributions matter. Roots and Shoots, founded by Dr. Jane Goodall over 30 years ago, is a youth leadership program that empowers young people to create positive change in their communities. Now a globally recognized initiative, Roots & Shoots engages more than 12,000 young people across Canada, reaching over 80,000 community members through local projects. Participants design and implement projects that address interconnected challenges in biodiversity loss, environmental inequity, and climate change. Roots and Shoots Canada | Global
