LANDSCAPE CREW LEADS

Eco-Yards is seeking working landscape crew leads.

You will lead and work along with a small crew performing eco-friendly landscape construction projects. 

The Eco-yards crew is made up of people who respect the earth and each other. We love beautifying spaces and complete each task and job with pride. As individuals who take direction well and pay close attention to detail, we ensure that each project is completed to the Eco-yards standard. We like to work hard and get dirty, and we share in the satisfaction that we are improving the earth one yard at a time.  

Eco-yards does landscape design, installation (construction), maintenance, and spraying compost tea for yards in the Calgary, Alberta area.

OUR TEAM DOES A VARIETY OF WORK INCLUDING:

• Our specialty is creating beautiful, healthy plantings
• We remove lawns, and replace them with beautiful eco-friendly landscapes that are pollinator friendly, easy to maintain, and water wise
• We replace lawns with alternative ground covers
• We manage rainwater with rain capture systems, and distribute rainwater through the landscapes with rock rivers and underground distribution systems.
• We install hardscaping: brick, natural stone, and compacted fines paths, patios, walls and edging to create practical outdoor living spaces
• We do carpentry and woodwork: raised garden beds, decks, fences, edging and patios.
• We amend soil with rich soil and compost, and spread natural mulch to maintain moisture and provide nutrients to the soil.
• We maintain yards and garden beds with regular weeding and pruning.
• We brew and spray our own compost tea.

You'll gain valuable experience in every service we provide to our clients.

LANDSCAPING CREW LEADS WILL HAVE: 

• Landscaping experience, with landscape construction a preference. 
• Physical labour experience. This is so we know you can safely do work that requires strength, stamina, and good body mechanics.
• Strong verbal and written communication and comprehension in English
• Leadership skills and experience supervising
• Respect for the environment and others
• Willingness to learn the Eco-Yards way of working, and teach it to others on the crew - lead by example
• Ability to be flexible with tasks and hours
• Good physical health
• Positive attitude
• Responsible and punctual
• Class 5 driver's license or better and a clean driving record
• Legal ability to work in Canada
• Availability to work the entire season (April/May through early to mid-November)

 PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN TO CANDIDATES WHO HAVE:

• Horticulture training, landscaping and gardening experience.
• Experience with gardening hand tools and carpentry power tools, and landscaping equipment (compactors etc.).
• Familiarity with safety systems and ability to teach safe work practices and hazard identification
• Experience and/or comfort driving trucks, hauling trailers, operating a skidsteer 

WAGES AND BENEFITS:

• Starting at $30 - $35 depending on qualifications and experience. 
• Potential crew leads who are less qualified or experienced may start as crew members and work up to leading crews.  
• Paid holiday and vacation allowance (10%)
• Flexible with unpaid days off if needed. 

Our season runs from approximately May to early November, and we typically work Monday to Friday 8- 4:30 on site. We remain flexible concerning start and end times throughout the season to accommodate hours of daylight, weather, and workload. Crew members meet on-site and must have a way to get to work sites on their own or in carpools.

Our goal is to recruit and retain people who will grow with us over the years.  For the right candidates, there is a potential to earn an ownership stake in the company.
