Position: Founding Technical Advisor – Advanced Materials R&D

Would you like the opportunity to help define the technical direction of an emerging Canadian deep-tech venture and influence the development of future technologies with real-world industrial impact?

Auvrix Energy is seeking a Founding Technical Advisor – Advanced Materials R&D to work directly with the Founder in shaping the company's technical strategy, evaluating research opportunities, and helping establish its long-term innovation roadmap. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced scientist, engineer, or technical leader to apply their expertise toward identifying high-value research and development opportunities in advanced materials, extreme-environment technologies, thermal management, infrastructure reliability, and future industrial systems. Working alongside the Founder, the successful candidate will provide technical leadership in evaluating scientific opportunities, defining potential R&D pathways, assessing technical feasibility, and supporting the development of future intellectual property and commercialization opportunities.

As Auvrix advances through its research, validation, and team-building phase, this role offers the opportunity to influence future R&D programs, help build the company's technical foundation, contribute to intellectual property development, and play a meaningful role in shaping the future direction of an emerging Canadian deep-tech venture.

What will you be doing?

  • Work directly with the Founder & CEO to help shape Auvrix Energy's technical vision, innovation strategy, and long-term technology roadmap.
  • Evaluate scientific and engineering challenges, identify high-value research opportunities, and help define technical pathways capable of generating meaningful industrial impact.
  • Help establish the company's R&D priorities, technical focus areas, and future research programs in advanced materials, thermal management, infrastructure reliability, extreme-environment technologies, and future industrial systems.
  • Assess emerging technologies, technical risks, and innovation opportunities with strong scientific and commercial potential.
  • Provide technical leadership in evaluating research directions, technical feasibility, development pathways, and future intellectual property opportunities.
  • Support the development of Auvrix Energy's technical foundation, including research frameworks, technology roadmaps, and future product and technology development strategies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with universities, research institutions, laboratories, industry partners, innovation organizations, and technical experts.
  • Contribute to intellectual property strategy, technology assessment, commercialization planning, and long-term innovation initiatives.
  • Represent Auvrix Energy in technical discussions with researchers, industry stakeholders, innovation partners, and potential collaborators.
  • Provide strategic technical guidance to support innovation, company growth, and long-term value creation.
  • Support the recruitment, mentorship, and future development of scientific and engineering talent as the company grows.
  • Work alongside the Founder & CEO to transform promising technical opportunities into commercially viable technologies, products, and businesses.

Education, Experience, Skills & Abilities:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in industrial R&D, advanced technology development, materials innovation, engineering, product development, or technology commercialization.
  • Master's degree or PhD preferred in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate technical opportunities from both scientific and commercial perspectives.
  • Experience translating research concepts into practical technologies, products, processes, or commercial applications is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is considered an asset:

    • Reliability Engineering
    • Corrosion & Protective Coatings
    • Failure Analysis
    • Extreme-Environment Technologies
    • Advanced Manufacturing
    • Energy Technologies
  • Strong leadership, communication, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently in an entrepreneurial and early-stage environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.

The ideal candidate is an experienced scientist, engineer, or technical leader with a strong track record of evaluating, developing, and advancing innovative technologies within industrial, research, or commercialization-focused environments. They possess sound technical judgment, strategic thinking capabilities, and the ability to assess complex scientific and engineering opportunities from both technical and practical perspectives. They are comfortable operating in environments where technical direction is still being defined and where thoughtful evaluation, prioritization, and decision-making are critical. The successful candidate will bring experience navigating the intersection of research, technology development, intellectual property, and commercialization, while maintaining a strong focus on technical excellence and long-term value creation. This opportunity is well suited to individuals interested in contributing their expertise to the technical development of an emerging deep-tech venture, influencing future R&D priorities, and helping shape technologies with meaningful industrial relevance and commercial potential.
