About the Project

Help build sustainable housing for families in need while getting real, hands-on construction experience.

The Legacy Building Project is a grassroots initiative building accessible housing solutions for special needs families in Toronto. Centered on sustainable design, gentle density, and community-led building, our pilot project gives students, emerging designers, and enthusiasts a supportive space to learn active build-site skills firsthand.

What You Will Gain

• Real-World Experience: Bridge the gap between architectural drawings and actual construction by helping build on-site.

• 1-on-1 Mentorship: Work directly alongside our construction lead to learn tool safety, site coordination, and structural framing basics.

• Portfolio & Resume Boost: Document real build progress, learn working details, and receive a LinkedIn endorsement or letter of recommendation.

• Network & Community: Connect with local architects, designers, building science students, and trade practitioners.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Assist with material staging, measuring, cutting, and installation under direct supervision.

• Help maintain job-site organization, safety protocols, and general assembly tasks.

• Photograph and document construction milestones for portfolio use.

Who We’re Looking For

• No prior site experience required! We train you on the job.

• Ideal for students or graduates in Architecture, Building Science, Interior Design, or Skilled Trades—or anyone passionate about green building and community impact.

• Eager to work outdoors, learn safely, and handle physical tasks (lifting, tool operation, assembly).

• Required: CSA-approved steel-toe boots. (Hard hats, safety vests, and eye protection provided on site).

Qualifications

• A keen interest in the construction industry, and a passion for helping others.
• Graduates from architecture, design, and construction programs would also be great candidates, but it is not required.
• Ability or interest in performing physical tasks outdoors on an active build site (e.g., lifting, digging, tidying, installing material, operating hand tools).
• Strong safety mindset, reliability, and eagerness to learn.
• CSA-approved steel-toe boots required. (Hard hats, high-vis vests, and safety glasses provided on site if needed).

• On-Site Training: The supervisor will train you on the job to help you develop and hone various construction skills.

• Safety & Credentials: On-site safety orientation and equipment training provided.
• References: Letters of recommendation and LinkedIn endorsements can be provided upon completion of 20+ hours.
